Summer Time

School is almost up, and summer is coming once again. I know I won't be able to update this site in some time now, but during the summer months, I hope to be able to update this site once again. I have written some more scripts that I'd like to add to the collection as well (but they are not ready for the 'prime time' as of yet), as well as rewrite some of the older ones that I have done (especially PHP Calculator!).

Been a LONG while...

Well, it's been about 6 or so months since the last update... A lot of things have happened in my real life that have taken my time away from here (like school, job, etc.). I do wish to one day add to the site like I did way back when (it seems...), but for now, I simply have no time. However, since I am writing, I think that I will include some links to websites I visit on almost a daily basis:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/
http://www.no-install.com/
http://www.cbc.ca/

As part of my real life job, I've had to dabble with some Linux to create a server for the Cafe that I work at. The Server basically handles content filtering, dhcp (although not really needed...), firewall, a VPN solution (our wireless server sits on the same network), and some other nice goodies. My distro of choice was Ubuntu 6.06, and I am happy with the results it gave me.

Well, so long for now. Hopefully it will not be too long before my next message.

P.S., sadly, I've had to disable the comments and the guestbook feature as they were being targeted a lot by spammers... I've also had to ditch me @kneuf.com email for now as my hosting company doesn't have any kind of spam filter, and well, you can imagine my inbox... If you need to get a hold of me for some reason, just use the forums (link is on the left).

Updates...

It has been a while since I've last updated this website. More or less because of work and school, which leave me with virtually no time in between. Not that I don't like work, I love it. School, however, is a different story... Anyway, I do hope that once I am done the projects that I am working on for work that I can return to developing Simple Cheats.

On another note, it seems that I am going to have to remove the comments and guestbook feature, as they are being subjected to lots of abuse. Of course, you don't see it because I have to review each entry. I hope that I won't have to, though. It also seems that go.kneuf.com is permently not working so I am going to stop that project as of now as well. If you want to leave a message, you can use the forums (link on left nav. bar).

long downtime

Wow, what a week. The website is finally back online after the many, many days it has either been offline. I do not know why this happened, but rest assured it had nothing to do with me. I hope that things stay stable, but that will probably not be the case. Anyway, I hope that everyone had a nice Christmas and a happy new year.

New Toys

Well, it has been a while since my last update. Progess on Simple Cheats has been stalled for a while, and will continue to be until a few other projects get done. One of them is a project for one of my jobs, it is a inventory management system to be used with barcode scanners. That will take most of my free time.

As the header suggests, I have a few new toys to play with. Expect a review on them sometime in the future ;) Here is a little info on them:
1)My new Creative Labs Zen Micro MP3 player. I have the 5 GB Green model, and so far this device works like a charm. Battery life is good, song playback quality is excellent as well. Few things that could be better: the FM tuner doesn't pick up much, and the voice recorders' microphone is located very close to the harddrive of the MP3 player and so picks up the noises made from it. Other than that though, it is a good product.
2)This one I am very proud of It is an ECS 536 AMD SEMPRON 2600 Notebook. I had to upgrade a few things from the standord laptop. Here are my current specs:
-60 Gigabyte hdd
-512 MB total RAM
-1.6 Gigahertz processor speed
-15" TFT display
-4 USB 2.0 ports
-WAN (802.11 b/g)
-LAN
-modem
-touchpad
It is a lower end laptop, but I don't care that much. It is pretty fast for my needs. The only problem though is that its battery claims to last around 2.5 hours, but I find that it my last around an hour or so, but I didn't expect much from it. This computer will be replacing my Windows ME computer, so the low end laptop is really a high end compared to it.

[edit]Well, during the weekend I calibrated the battery. Since then, I've noticed that my battery has lasted about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on type of usage. I seems to charge rather quickly as well. Also, my specs are may not be 100% accurate, but they are relatively close.

Schools In..

Well, its that time of year again. School had begun for most kids, so its back to homework... I usually have a few days during the week I am able to work on things, Simple Cheats is one of them. It's slow, but its moving. I am also probably going to be uploading things from my Computer Science course, mostly files created using the wonderfull programming language, Turing In case anyone is interested, this is my second year taking Computer Science at my school, and once again we are doing things in Turing. I would have like to do something a "little" more advanced, and it was my understanding we would be using Visual Basic but that was not so...

I've also added a Firefox button to the left side under "Links". As well as a Thunderbird linke. For those who don't know, Thunderbird is an Outlook Express like email client which is more safer to use. It is usually quite easy to transfer from Outlook Express to Thunderbird and Thunderbird has a nice anti-spam feature as well.

P.S., if you want developement on Simple Cheats to move a bit faster, you can always leave a comment below with a something you would like to see in it. As well, I am going to be implementing some sort of anti-bot feature on the "Contact Us" form, as right now I'm getting at least 26 spam messages a day with basically the same content. That number increases every day.

Simple Cheats and more

Work has begun on Simple Cheats. It is a cheat database manager, will probably be a little similar to the one on kneuf.com many moons ago, but it is a complete rewrite of the code. It will be a while before anything is released, but I have at least begun work on it. I have the database part mostly set up, working on the admin area right now. Things that are done:
-admin area
-multiple user levels (reg. user, editor/moderator, and admin)
-add new accounts
-log is kept of all admin actions
There is going to be a lot of things to do and I have little time. Right now I am chipping away at it a few hours each day. I also have two part time jobs now which also eat up a lot of time. Of course, I get paid at those and I don't make much profit on this website so real life will take precedence The script will probably be free.

By the way, the two jobs. One, I am a "runner" at a bowling alley, basically work at the front and do what ever needs doing. The other, I work at a local computer shop doing various things.

Oh, as a reminder, be sure to clean out your computer cases every now and then! Just today a computer had come in and was full of dust. A computer with lots of dust will not last nearly as long as a clean one as it causes the computer to generate more heat and clogs the fans.

New Simple Articles version 2.03!

Yup, thats right, Simple Articles version 2.03 is now completed! It isn't a huge improvement over the last upgrade, mostly spelling errors and a few bugs. But anyway, now you can do simple sorting within the admin interfaces. One of the bugs was that if you had a none-IE browser, like Firefox, you couldn't select another category on one of the pages. Now, that is fixed. It has been tested on Firefox version 1.0.6 and it checked out so thats good. Another fix is that you can put in quotes and some other non-alphanumeric stylings into your articles and category names and it shouldn't mess anything up.
Edit (August 8, 2005): I had uploaded Simple Articles v. 2.03 a few days ago, but I just noticed that my site had undergone a roll back of some sort. So, I've reuploaded it again.

Schools Out [for Summer]

Well, school is finally out for me. Exams are done. This means that I should have plenty more time for my website. That isn't a guarantee of course, but I will try . I have added some more areas to the forums. It's a new category called Lego Mindstorms. There you can discuss anything you want about Lego Mindstorms! It is a complement to the NeufKar Robotics site. I've also taken out the Sports category, as it doesn't fit in with my site.

Neufkar Robotics

If you look to the left navigation bar, you will notice a new link - NeufKar Robotics. NeufKar Robotics is the robotics team I participate in as part of a course at my school. We build robots using Lego Mindstorms kits. During the course of the year, I have been updating this website and maintaining it so that fellow classmates could use it. Now, I feel that the rest of the world would also like it so I'm making it public. I probably won't be updating it much after this with the exams coming in a week. Anyway, visit and see what our team has done.
